ABSTRACT
Since 1991, the Shield of Athena has promoted equal access to information and resources for women and children victims of violence through the development of a network of services that includes 2 centers, a shelter and a community outreach department. During our presentation we will discuss the challenges of the intervention in the context of immigration with women who face cultural and linguistic barriers.

Melpa Kamateros
Executive Director Shield of Athena Montreal Melpa Kamateros was born in Cyprus and came to Canada when she was four years old. Her background is in Political Science with a graduate diploma in Community Politics and the Law from Concordia University. A journalist and writer, she has designed many public awareness programs with communities and the ethnic media on conjugal and family violence. Maud Pontel
Co-ordinator Shield of Athena Montreal Maud immigrated to Canada in 2001 to pursue graduate studies in social work at the University of Quebec in Montreal. Her academic background and professional experience led her to specialise in the issue of violence against women and intervention in an intercultural context.
